Within the course, you will train yourself on a practical basis. Through an experiential methodology and a critical theoretical base, the course aims to deepen and redefine the concept of public space and provide the necessary tools to design and implement good quality public spaces for young children and their caregivers to get Urban Landscapes of Care.

The MOOC is structured under 7 learning modules. Every module represents 1 week of learning content and is subdivided into 2-4 lessons. Each lesson takes 30min to 1,5 hours, each module from 2 to 4 hours, depending on the type of activities that are going to be realized. Through theoretical inputs (readings, videos, podcasts, case studies) and practical exercises (quizzes, practical activities, discussion prompts) you will learn about the challenges and needs of early childhood in our cities, especially in cities of the Global South, as well as different design and implementation strategies that will help you to develop an Urban Landscapes of Care for young children and their caregivers in your city.

At the end of each week, reflections are made on what has been learned and you are invited to share your thoughts and comments through the MOOC forums and discussion prompts to interact with your peers. Apart from the compulsory educational material, you have access to recommended complementary material that allows you to deepen your learning process.

Experiential learning

From IntuyLab, we believe, that the most effective learning progress is made when we start from past experiences. Therefore this MOOC offers a practice-based learning strategy. We will analyze real cases, gain new skills through practical exercises and apply our new knowledge to a project. The city is going to be our laboratory, the urban space our classroom, and the citizens our classmates. Learning together and building together is the base for the participatory construction of our cities.

The lived and shared experiences will allow us to develop integrated design and implementation strategies that respond to the local social, ecological, and economic context, to generate a sustainable project in public space.

Mastery Learning Approach

In a complementary way, the methodology of this course includes the Mastery Learning Approach guidelines, a key component of Coursera’s learning philosophy.

The Mastery Learning Approach ensures effective learning independently of time. Through reviews and quizzes, you will receive feedback that will help you understand your own learning progress within the course. The learning process of this methodology is progressive and requires a final review after each module. This way you can take as much time as you need to perfect your learning process so that no one is left behind.
